On February 2, 2012, the Case Western Reserve University of Medicine community gathered to observe the inaugural appointment of Mark R. Chance, PhD, as the Dr. Charles W. and Iona A. Mathias Professor of Cancer Research.

Dr. Chance subsequently was appointed Vice Dean of Research at the School of Medicine, and he continues to lead multiple areas within the School of Medicine as Professor of General Medical Sciences, Director of the Center for Proteomics and Bioinformatics, Interim Chair of the Department of Genetics and Director of the case Center for Synchrotron Biosciences. He also serves as Chief Scientific Officer and Co-Founder of NeoProteomics, Inc.

Dr. Chance received his PhD in Biophysics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. He spent a large portion of his career teaching at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine prior to joining Case Western Reserve School of Medicine and the Center for Proteomics and Bioinformatics in 2005.

Mark has received numerous awards, including the Upjohn Company New Faculty Research Award and the Irma T. Hirschl Career Scientist Award. He has published over 200 manuscripts on his proteomics, mass spectrometry and bioinformatics research.
